![]() At the time of the discovery, there was already a belief that the remains of Saint James the Greater were located in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. The date when these remains were found is pretty certain, but the history behind the finding is not so clear. This is how many devotees begin to show interest in the remains of Apostle James and, moved by religion, begin their pilgrimage to Santiago from different parts of the Christian Europe. At the end of this century, Christian cultures in Europe echo this historical finding. The remains of Saint James are discovered in 812, so many people take this year as the starting date of the Way of Saint James as we know it nowadays. These funerary monuments typical of the Celtic culture, reveal that some Celtic peoples already visited Santiago for religious reasons, unconnected to the Christian religion. According to the archaeological remains and the studies that have been carried out of them, it is known that Santiago de Compostela was already a pre-Christian necropolis: that is to say, that in Santiago there were dolmens and other funerary elements of previous times before Christ. Many theories assure that the road to Santiago already existed in pre-Christian times, it is not until 812 when the Way becomes a way of devotion to the Apostle Saint James the Greater.Īccording to some theories and studies, the Way of Saint James already existed as a route for some pre-Christian peoples, such as the Celts. The history of the Camino de Santiago can be traced back to Roman times, more specifically around the 9th century. But where does it come from? Who were the first pilgrims? Why did they make a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela? When did the Camino de Santiago begin? WE KNOW that the Way of Saint James is a pilgrimage with many centuries of history. The origin of this tradition: History of the Way of Saint James ![]() ![]() Whichever route you choose, here you will find all the information you need to know before starting your pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. If you want to do the longest route, the Vía de la Plata with its more than 900 km awaits you, but if you have little time you can also prefer the English Way. So choose your adventure: you can do the French Way, the most popular of these routes, considered the traditional variant, or for example the Primitive Way, the oldest of all and the most difficult. This set of routes and the tradition of pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela date back to the Middle Ages, a time when walkers from all over Europe began this tradition that continues today and that you can also experience, either on foot with your dog, a caballo o by bike. The Camino de Santiago is a set of routes with different points of origin whose final goal is the city of Santiago de Compostela, or more specifically, its cathedral, where the remains of the Apostle Santiago are found. ![]()

![]() The GMIC Qt plugin pack with 568 additional filters (some functional, some just for fun) is available for both GIMP and Paint.NET If you’re not familiar with the idea, plugins are additional pieces of software written by other developers that ‘plug in’ to GIMP and Paint.NET, modifying each program with additional features and functionality. Plugins are where these programs can really shine. Even if you count all the Filters/Effects as automatic adjustments, GIMP still wins by a significant margin. GIMP has a number of automatic adjustments available, while Paint.NET only has a few. Of course, neither of these programs can compete with the automatic adjustments available in paid programs like Photoshop’s new Neural Filters that use machine learning algorithms to do some truly mind-blowing edits with just a few clicks. If you include all the fancy image effect filters (which I don’t, usually, because they’re fun once but not really very useful in the long run), GIMP still comes out ahead thanks to the inclusion of the GEGL image processing library that has a bunch of built-in filters for both fun and function. If we’re looking at purely functional automatic adjustments, GIMP has a fairly basic set, but Paint.NET only has a couple of options. Most image editors contain automatic adjustments for a range of purposes, from noise removal to contrast adjustment and everything in-between. Paint.NET has decent editing tools, but they’re not as capable as those found in GIMP. Paint.NET also has a layering system, although you can’t use tools like Clone Stamp across multiple layers, which really limits its functionality to quick retouching projects where precision isn’t too important. Brush-based tools like Paintbrush and Clone Stamp only let you change brush size and brush hardness, but you can’t use custom shapes or other more complex dynamics. Paint.NET has decent responsive retouching tools too, but they’re not nearly as customizable as those in GIMP. GIMP’s customizable brush-based tools are powerful and flexible ![]() Its layer system could use a bit of updating, but it’s perfectly workable for simple non-destructive image retouching projects. ![]() GIMP offers an impressive array of fully customizable brush-based editing tools that are flexible and responsive, even when working on high-resolution images. You can add on as many fancy bells and whistles as you want, but if you don’t get these tools right, then you’re not really creating an image editor. Manual editing tools are the bread and butter of a good image editor. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at GIMP and Paint.NET. In order to keep things nice and fair between the two programs I’m comparing, here are the categories that I look at for an image editor (and no, it’s not just about the tools!): Paint.NET: Which Is Best?īefore we dive into the comparison, I want to set a few ground rules. ![]() With that out of the way, let’s get back to the good stuff. I’ve tested and worked with almost every image editor available today, so you can trust my comparison reviews to be more than just useless fluff. I’ve been involved in the digital art world for over 20 years, and much of that time has been working as a photographer and graphic designer. My name is Thomas Boldt, and I’m the writer and image editing expert on the TGT team. I can understand why you might be a bit wary about these kinds of comparison articles since most of them seem to be written by bots – or at least by people who seem like they’ve never actually used any image editor for more than five minutes at a time. ![]() ![]() This will also allow you to manage stakeholders’ expectations better. These charts allow leaders to closely track tasks and milestones and reveal possible issues so managers and members can adjust quickly. For those managing or tracking projects, this tool is excellent for allocating resources, improving communications, and measuring the progress of tasks. Gantt charts provide a high-level overview and top-line perspective of a project and help managers better understand overall progress. Here are some of the main benefits of Gantt charts. It is easy to use takes great pictures and videos no matter where you are. Maybe Panasonic is great with point and shoots, but not so much with video cameras.įalse I wouldn't go on vacation without my PanasonicSDR-H80 Camcorder! ![]() This camcorder has left me wishing that I spent more money and maybe went with a different brand. Good picture quality is very important to me. I don't love the video on my point and shoot either, so I was really disappointed to find that this one isn't any better. I was expecting the video quality to be more crisp. There seems to be no point in carrying an extra camera and giving me something else that I have to remember to download off of. The video quality just isn't any better than my point and shoot, so the camcorder feels quite irrelevent. It does an OK job, but I was expecting better. We initially bought it for our wedding and honeymoon knowing that we would soon be having kids and want to use it all of the time. The price was great, especially with such enormous zoom and memory. So, when we were shopping for a video camera, I thought I would stick with a brand I know and trust. I swear by my Panasonic point and shoot and have convinced many people to buy the same one that I have. Otherwise, you'll be looking at a nauseatingly shaky mess.I really love the Panasonic brand. The OIS system is good, but only out to about 20x unless you have incredibly steady hands and don't breathe. Worth repeating, however, is this camcorder's need for a tripod when using the full zoom range. That said, if you still live completely in a low-resolution world, the recordings are destined for video-sharing Web sites, or you simply want to capture the moment no matter how it looks, the H80 should be satisfactory. Low-light performance isn't great, either, but that also is expected from standard-definition models. However, if you don't feel like thinking about settings, press the iA button and the H80 will adjust depending on the subject and recording environment as it corresponds to a Scene mode. From Manual mode you can also choose a Scene mode that will optimize shutter and aperture settings for what you're shooting. You can then move the joystick up to get control of shutter speed, aperture (labeled Iris), and white balance. As mentioned earlier, a single press of the Manual AF/MF button will let you control focus using the joystick. Panasonic included both full manual and full auto shooting options. Inside the LCD cavity is where you'll find the SD/SDHC card slot for additional video or photo storage and an AV out. The last one is particularly handy because you'll want to shut OIS off when the H80's on a tripod. This includes buttons for accessing manual controls, turning on Panasonic's Intelligent Auto (iA) mode, and enabling the optical image stabilization (OIS). If you dread going into menus to make adjustments, Panasonic dots the H80 with several buttons for quickly changing between shooting options. Flipping out the LCD exposes a five-way joystick and Menu button on the left side of the screen. ![]() There's a Power/Mode dial at the top back for selecting whether you want to record movies or still photos or play them back. Though it doesn't come off as stylish as Sony's competing 60x zoom Handycam DCR-SR47, it still looks and feels good.Ĭontrols are pretty typical for this type of camcorder and nothing is so horribly positioned to make using the H80 uncomfortable (though the Record button is a touch too close to the battery).
